Hisui

"Hisui" (翡翠) is derived from the name of the kingfisher (翡翠鳥) that flutters by the water. Due to the beautiful verdigris color of its feathers, the mineral with the same hue was also called "Hisui-gyoku" (翡翠玉), which became the name of the jewel. In the Heian period, it was considered an auspicious color, symbolizing purity and prosperity.
